Dry fruit halwa is a perfect healthy recipe that you can have to satisfy your sweet craving without feeling guilty. This Dry Fruit Halwa is a made from the variety of the dry fruits: almonds, cashew, figs, dates, pistachios and walnuts etc.

This recipe doesn’t require khoya and sugar, however if you want to make it more rich and sweet you can add it as per your taste. You can add or skip dry fruits as per your preference. Adding poppy seed is optional but trust me it will give nice texture to the desert.

Dry fruit halwa, when prepared with a combination of nutritious ingredients, offers several health benefits. It is rich in Nutrients, Dietary fiber, Protein, Antioxidant, good for heart health and give you energy boost.

The recipe to make the dry fruit barfi is quick and easy and makes it a perfect desert for winters. My son love this halwa more than any other desert now. You can make this halwa in batch and can store it in fridge for 8-10 days (I bet it will finish before that 🙂 )

How to Make Dry Fruit Halwa:

Step1: To begin making the Dry Fruit Halwa Recipe, Chop the mixed dry fruits into small pieces. You can lightly roast the dry fruits in a pan for enhanced flavor, but this step is optional. Add poppy seed in 1/2 cup warm water and let it soak for 1 hour. Soak saffron in the warm milk.

Step2: Grind  1) chopped dry fruits,  2) foxnuts, 3) figs + dates+ Raisins,  4) poppy seed + fennel seeds. Grind them separately since all have different texture. Keep aside.

Step3: Add ghee to a preheated pan and add the powdered nuts. Sauté until it gets well combined for 4 to 5 minutes on medium flame. Here I am using the same pan in which I have made the ghee.

Step4: Add powdered foxnuts, dates along with cardamon, cinnamon and dry ginger powder. Mix everything well.

Step5: Add fennel and poppy seed paste. Pour in the saffron milk to the dry fruit mixture. Stir everything together until well combined.

Step6: Continue to stir for around 6-8 mins on low medium flame.

Step7: Cook the mixture on low to medium heat until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan. You may notice the ghee is separated and oozing out of the mixture.

Step8: Add coconut powder and mix everything well. Taste the sweetness at this point and add 2-3 tablespoon of jaggery if needed (optional).

Step9: Once the halwa reaches the desired consistency, remove it from the heat. Garnish with chopped pistachios and coconut powder. Serve the dry fruit halwa warm. It can be enjoyed on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Tips:

  • To make it vegan use coconut oil instead of ghee and full fat coconut milk instead of regular milk.
  • Add nuts and dry fruits of your choice. Adjust the sweetness depending upon your taste.
  • You can freeze the halwa for 5-6 weeks. Just transfer it in a freezer safe box and freeze. Thaw before using and warm in microwave.
  • This version of dry fruit halwa without khoya is equally delicious and rich in flavor. Enjoy your homemade halwa!
