Eggless Savory French Toast

Eggless Savory French Toast is an extremely easy and quick breakfast recipe that can be put together in 10-15 minutes. This recipe is simple where bread is dipped in chickpea (Besan) batter and toasted on a griddle. Perfect breakfast recipe for busy mornings or evening snacks. It is spicy and delicious and often served with green coriander chutney or tomato sauce.

Level: Beginners (Easy)  ∏  Measurement: 1 Cup ≡ 250 ml ≡ 250gm

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of white/brown bread
  • 1 cup (250gm) gramflour (or besan)
  • 2-3 teaspoon finely chopped onion
  • 2-3 teaspoon finely chopped tomato
  • Fistful fresh chopped coriander leaves
  • 2-3 green chilly finely chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger finely chopped (grated)
  • 1 Pinch Asafoetida  (Hing)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chilly powder
  • 1/4 cup water (or as needed)
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 teaspoon vegetable oil

How to make Eggless Savory French Toast:

Step1: In a large bowl add besan along with all dry spices turmeric powder, red chilly powder, Hing and salt as per your taste. Mix dry ingredient very well then keep adding small amount of water in batches and keep stirring so that there is no lump. (A tablespoon water at a time if necessary, It should be a thick batter). Make a smooth lump free batter. Now add all onion, tomato, green chilly, coriander, ginger and make a smooth batter.

Step2: Using knife cut bread slices into two pieces or as required. Heat a tawa or griddle and spread some oil, you can also use a non stick pan. Dip bread slice in the batter and coat it well from both the sides. Use your hands to spread the batter evenly on the bread. Turn the bread and make sure the batter has adhered to all over the slice of bread.

Step3: Place the batter coated bread pieces in the hot greased pan and repeat, place
few pieces of  bread, depending on the size of the frying pan.Toast the bread both sides, on a low flame until brown and crisp and toasted. Toasting on low flame is essential so it browns evenly. If you want you can flip a couple of times too for even cooking

Eggless Savory French Toast is ready to be served with coriander chutney or tomato ketchup.
