Potato Sandwich

Potato (aloo) sandwich is the another simple breakfast recipe prepared with boiled and mashed potatoes and flavoured with spices. If you have leftover boiled potatoes, you can make this sandwich in a jiffy. It can be had for breakfast or as a tea time snack. Lets learn how to make aloo masala sandwiches, a grilled sandwich recipe with spicy potato masala filling.

Level: Beginners(Easy)        ∏  Measurement: 1 Cup ≡ 250 ml ≡ 250gm

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium size boiled potato (Aloo)
  • 4 slices of Brown/white Bread
  • 3-4 teaspoon coriander chutney
  • Coriander leaves – fistful (finely chopped)
  • 2 teaspoon (1 inch) Butter
  • 1-2 green chillies finely chopped
  • 1/2 inch grated ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon amchoor powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilly powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2-3 teaspoon oil

How to make Potato Sandwich:

Step1: Peel the potatoes and with the fingers mash them into small pieces.

Add 1-2 teaspoon oil in a heated pan, then add mustard seed and let them crackle. Then add cumin seed. Keep the flame to low add grated ginger, green chilly and saute it for 20 seconds.

Step2: Now add turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt as per taste, saute it for 30 seconds on low flame. Add mashed potatoes mix everything well and saute it for 3-4 minutes on low-medium flame, keep stirring in between. Once potatoes are sauteed a add cumin powder and amchoor (dry mango) powder.

Step3: Add fresh chopped coriander and mix everything. Cover the pan and let it cook for for 2 minutes on low-medium flame. Then turn off the flame. Taste the salt and spices and adjust accordingly. Potato stuffing is ready.

Step4: Take 2 bread slices and spread coriander chutney on both the slices. Then take 2 teaspoon of potato filling and spread it evenly using spoon or knife on one bread slice. Top it with grated cheese. Place another slices over the top of the slice having stuffing. Press a bit.

 

Heat a griddle or tawa on low-medium flame, grease it with some butter. Then place the sandwich and grill it until golden from both the sides. (Apply butter on both the sides). If you have sandwich maker then preheat and place sandwich and grill it until golden.

(Note: If you do not have grill at home then simply use griddle and press sandwich using plate and some heavy object or stone. If will give the same result as sandwich maker.)

Potato stuffed sandwich is ready. Cut in triangle or square and serve it hot/warm with green chutney & ketchup.
