Air Fried Pizza McPuff or Veg Pizza McPuff or simply Pizza Puff is a very easy and popular snack recipe that resembles the McDonald’s McPuff which we get in India.
This homemade Pizza McPuff is made by stuffing vegetables sauteed in pizza sauce and other seasonings inside the puff pastry sheet. That’s the reason it tastes like a combination of Pizza and Puff.
When I was in India My husband took me for movie night and after that we had dinner in the food court that’s when I had it for the very first time. I must really share this with you guys….My husband is a big fan of McPuff and he told me so much about it and I felt like how I didn’t know about it. So as soon as I received the order I was drooling like a baby, I picked one in my hand and before my husband warned me “Its very Hot”…I already had one bite and burnt my tongue by the melted cheese. 🙁
I felt so bad that I was not able to get its real taste due to my damaged taste buds. So my husband promised me that next weekend he will again take me to the McD. And since then It became my favorite snacks.
After shifting to Chicago I didn’t get a chance for munching on my favourite snacks for a long time. In USA McDonald’s don’t have McPuff in their Menu. So I thought of making it at home and surprise my son who is a pizza lover.
What is Pizza McPuff?
Mc Donald’s Style Veg Pizza McPuff is a recipe that has rolled flaky pastry dough and stuffed with saucy and spicy vegetables and shaped into rectangular puff pockets then deep fried until golden and crisp.
Typically pizza puff is deep fried but here in this recipe I have made them in Air fryer alternatively they can also be baked in oven till it is crisp.
Making puff pastry sheet at home is a lengthy and tedious process. Making dough then rolling, folding freezing and repeating the steps for almost 9-10 times is bit of a work which may or may not give you perfect results.
For this recipe I have used store bought readymade sheet, they are handy and absolutely perfect for making Mc Puff.
To prepare the stuffing, you can decide on the choice of the vegetables that you will be using and sauteeing them in oil. You can vary it as per your liking, here I have used green peas, capsicum (any colour), carrot, sweet corn, onion etc.
While frying the vegetables add garlic, oregano, chili flakes, ginger-garlic paste, tomato ketchup or Pizza sauce and mix them well. Allow it to cool down completely and then add the grated Mozzarella cheese.
Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, this delicious snack is my Son’s favorite, (who does not like cheese pizza stuffed crunchy pockets). It has been a while that I started preparing the Veg Pizza McPuff at home. So I decided to share the recipe with you.

How to make Air Fried Pizza McPuff:
Step1: Heat a frying pan and add butter or oil, then add finely chopped garlic and saute it for 20-30 seconds till the raw aroma of garlic goes away.
Step2: Now add 1 medium size finely chopped onion, saute it for 2-3 minutes on medium flame till it turns soft. Do not brown them.
Step3: Once the onion turns soft and light brown add 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste. (Alternatively you can add finely chopped or grated ginger-garlic.)
Step4: Furthermore, add 1/4 cup carrot, 1/4 teaspoon green peas and 2-3 tablespoon corn. Saute for 2-3 minutes on medium-high flame. (I have used frozen green peas, if you are using fresh green peas then boil it separately until it is soft then add.)
Step5: Now add chopped capsicum. I have used red and green capsicum, however, you may use any color of your choice. Saute lightly for 1-2 minutes.
Step6: Lower the flame, add the spices: 2 tablespoon tomato ketchup, 1 tablespoon red chili sauce, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder, 1/2 teaspoon oregano, 1/2 teaspoon red chilli flakes, 2 tablespoon pizza Sauce(optional) and salt as per taste.
Step7: Mix everything well, and cook for 2 minutes. Adjust the seasoning. Turn off the flame, remove it from the heat and keep it aside. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.
Step8: Add 1/2 cup grated Mozzarella cheese. You may choose any kind of cheese you like. Mix it with the vegetable mixture.
Step9: Stuffing for Veg Pizza McPuff is ready.
Step10: Lay the thrawed sheet on the dusted counter and using a rolling pin roll out to make a thin sheet.
Step11: Cut them into pieces as per your choice. I have cut them into rectangle shape.
Step12: Take a teaspoon of the filling and place on the center of a rectangle. Spread the stuffing vertically. Leave little space on the edges, to stick the other sheet over it.
Step13: Using brush apply some water on the edges of the sheet. This will act as a glue and the stuffing will not come out.
Step14: Place another rectangular dough sheet over it and press the sides gently. Press the corners of puffs and secure the stuffing in it. Next, press the edges of the puffs with a fork to give it a good design and affix the corners.
Step15: Prepare all likewise and place in a tray. Similarly, prepare all the pizza puffs. Refrigerate it for 10-15 minutes before frying or baking or air-frying.
Step16: Preheat the airfryer for 5 minutes on 350 Deg F. Then place all prepared McPuff into the basket. Using brush apply some oil all around the pockets. Then apply some whole milk or cream or egg white on top of each McPuff (this will give lovely brown colour). Cook them at 350Deg F for 12-15 mins. After 10 minutes, shake the basket and air-fry the puffs for 2-3 more minutes or until the pizza McPuff become golden brown and crispy from all sides.
Step17: Once they’re brown and crispy, transfer to a plate and let cool slightly. Enjoy guilt-free eating. Alternatively deep fry the veg pizza McPuff in hot oil or bake in a preheated oven at 350Deg C for 14-15 minutes. Just make sure to brush with oil before baking.
Step18: Pizza McPuffs are ready to be served. They have a crunchy crust and soft stuffing. Enjoy the Veg Pizza puff hot with any of your favorite dip.
- Add the Mozzarella Cheese to the stuffing only after the mixture completely cools down. If you add the grated cheese when the stuffing is still hot, it will melt down quickly and it will change the taste of McPuff.
- If you are using pizza or pasta sauce then I will suggest not to add extra oregano and chili flakes as the sauce already have it.
- While making stuffing add vegetables of your choice just finely chop the vegetables else will be difficult to stuff.
- Serve pockets immediately to enjoy the crunchy cheesy McPuff.
- You can also add grated ginger-garlic instead of ginger-garlic paste in stuffing.
- Before frying place the stuffed pockets in the refrigerator, so that no bubbles are formed on the surface.
- Instead of Air-frying them you may also deep fry them on medium flame until brown and crispy.
- Remember to close the edges of the sheets properly so that the vegetable stuffing does not come out while frying. To seal the pizza pockets, you can use either water or maida flour paste.
